The no-nonsense Good Morning Britain presenter called out the Minister for the Cabinet Office after he addressed Mr Cummings’ scandal and told viewers that the Prime Minister’s chief advisor had ‘sought to reduce the risk of infection to anyone else’.
‘When I read the story I was convinced there would be an explanation from Dominic, because I know he is a man of honour and integrity,’ Mr Gove began.
‘They will know from his own account that he was acting in a way which sought to safeguard his family, sought to limit, reduce the risk of infection to anyone else, which took account of a range of circumstances.’
Further defending the senior Government aide, Mr Gove said: ‘People will make their own mind up and as Dominic himself said, there will be many people who will think his actions were wrong or mistaken.
‘But looking at it in the round, I think his actions were reasonable.’

This is a demonstrable lie. Cummings deliberately ignored Govt rules – that he created – to take the virus first back to No10 & then to Durham, including to a hospital there. His actions INCREASED the risk of infection. ð https://t.co/H44IezrAxB

Piers, however, wasn’t impressed with Mr Gove’s response and didn’t hold back as he shared his opinions on social media.
‘This is a demonstrable lie,’ Piers tweeted.
‘Cummings deliberately ignored Govt rules – that he created – to take the virus first back to No10 & then to Durham, including to a hospital there.
‘His actions INCREASED the risk of infection.’
On Monday, Mr Cummings refused to step down over allegations he repeatedly broke lockdown rules, admitting he never considered resigning and he doesn’t regret his actions.
Speaking from the Downing Street rose garden on Monday afternoon, he remained defiant as he defended his actions by travelling 260 miles to visit his parents’ home in Durham, with his son and wife who had coronavirus symptoms in late March.
He did not apologise at any point.
The nation was left outraged over the weekend when fresh allegations emerged suggesting he visited Barnard Castle, 30 miles away from where he was staying, on April 12.

Downing Street confirmed that Mr Cummings then returned to London on April 14, but another witness claims they saw him ‘admiring the bluebells’ in the woods near Houghall, in County Durham, on April 19.
Dressed in a white shirt, Mr Cummings said ‘I do not regret what I did’ but added that ‘reasonable people may well disagree’. He said government rules do not cover all scenarios and that he was in a ‘tricky situation’ but believed he ‘behaved reasonably’. Cummings: ‘I have not offered to resign … I have not considered it.’
