Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta charged by FA for labelling referees ‘a disgrace’ after Newcastle defeat
Arteta was furious after the defeat at St James' Park.
The Gunners fell to a 1-0 defeat on 4 November after Anthony Gordon poked home from close range. The goal was checked by VAR for three separate incidents with Arteta livid the goal was allowed to stand.
He told Sky Sports after the match: ‘We didn’t deserve to lose the match playing, and we didn’t lose the match… because of the clear and obvious decisions. It’s embarrassing. It’s a disgrace. That’s what it is. It’s a disgrace.’
The FA said in a statement: Mikel Arteta has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3.1 following comments that he made in media interviews after Arsenal’s Premier League game against Newcastle United on Saturday 4 November.
‘It is alleged that his comments constitute misconduct as they are insulting towards match officials and/or detrimental to the game and/or bring the game into disrepute. Mikel Arteta has until Tuesday 21 November to provide a response to his charge.’
