Chelsea star Malo Gusto has been forced to withdraw from France’s U21 squad after suffering a knee injury.

The defender came off the bench during Sunday’s 4-4 draw with Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.

Gusto showed no sign of injury as he finished the game, with Chelsea scoring a dramatic late equaliser.

The 20-year-old had been first choice at right-back during Reece James’ absence in the last three months.

He’s now serving as James’ understudy again, but with the wing-back’s injury record Gusto must be ready to step in.

But France’s U21s confirmed on Monday that Gusto had been forced to withdraw from their squad with a ligament problem.

James pulled out of England’s squad as a precaution given his recent fitness problems and Chelsea will be hoping Gusto can recover in time for their trip to Newcastle after the international break.
