Ellen DeGeneres fans have been left baffled by a bizarre segment where she was seen rating her staff’s adorable newborn babies.
The star has been hosting her much-loved talk show from her home, with crew interacting with her from her garden.
But amid claims that her sweet persona is actually fake, Ellen and the team’s decision to rate the tots, born during the pandemic, didn’t sit right with viewers.
While all very tongue-in-cheek, Ellen posted videos of the cute little ones, rating them for their expressions, fat rolls, and how squeezable their cheeks are.
Javi, the new grandson of Ellen’s executive producer, was scored points for ‘family resemblance’ only to lose some because the host couldn’t ‘pinch his little fat rolls’.
Declaring ‘there were no losers in the game, but there will be a winner’, Ellen eventually gave the top prize to a dog named Gambler, owned by the associate producers.

Viewers weren’t best pleased with the segment, with several on Twitter asking for her to stop while another added that the show had ‘derailed’ as a result of it.
‘I disagree Ellen,’ one wrote. ‘I don’t have a child but I know parents get offended if you think there is something wrong with their child. They don’t deserve someone rating their kid, it’s wrong.’
The segment came at a bit of an awkward time, with claims that Ellen is ‘cruel’ and ‘mean’ to their staff surfacing online – and amid allegations that staff are furious as they wait to find out about their own pay while the studio version of the show is off air.

A former bodyguard also claimed that the star’s well-known sweet persona was nothing ‘bravado’ and ‘false facade’, with another ex-staffer coming forward stating that the claims were ‘all true’.
Beauty blogger NikkieTutorials also alleged the presenter ‘didn’t even say hello’ when she appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show back in January.
Speaking to the New York Post, an anonymous source claimed: ‘Is she always nice? No. It irritates me that people think she’s all sweetness and light and she gets away with it.’
However, other sources have defended Ellen and claimed that this sudden turn from people who were inside her camp has left her struggling.

‘Ellen is at the end of her rope,’ a source told US Weekly. ‘She thought this was all just sour grapes from a few haters. But it’s not a passing thing — the hits just keep coming.’
Despite this Ellen has continued on, and has not directly addressed the backlash.
The Ellen Show airs on Sky Comedy and NOW TV.
