Former Spanish political leader shot in the face in Madrid

A former Spanish political leader has been shot in the face in Madrid.
Alejo Vidal-Quadras was attacked in the centre of the capital city in the wealthy Salamanca area at around 1.30pm on Thursday.
Emergency services rushed to the 78-year-old’s aid in Núñez de Balboa street following the shocking incident.
A Civil Protection spokesperson said Mr Vidal-Quadras was conscious and has been rushed to the nearby Gregorio Marañón hospital.
Police are now hunting for two people who fled the scene on a motorbike, including the shooter who was wearing a black helmet.
Mr Vidal-Quadras was previously the head of the Popular Party of Catalonia from December 1991 until September 1996.
