IDF claims body of hostage recovered and Hamas tunnel found under Gaza hospital – latest
Four shadow ministers have resigned in protest.
The bodies of two Israeli hostages have been recovered from Gaza City, Israel’s military have said.
Judith Weiss, a 65-year-old grandmother who was suffering from breast cancer, was found dead in a building near al-Shifa Hospital in northern Gaza, according to the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF).
The body of 19-year-old soldier Noa Marciano was found hours later in a similar location, officials say.
Late on Thursday, Israel shared videos and photos of what it claimed to be ‘operational tunnel shaft and a vehicle containing a large number of weapons’ in the hospital.
Israeli soldiers have been searching the facility, a sprawling complex in the centre of Gaza city, since early on Wednesday morning.
Ms Weiss, who worked in a nursery school, was abducted from her house after her husband was killed in front of her when Hamas militants stormed their kibbutz on October 7.
Dr Ghassan Abu-Sittah, a British doctor working at al-Shifa, has branded Israeli claims that Hamas used the tunnels as a command centre as an ‘outlandish excuse’.
