‘I’ll be shocked’ – Paul Merson makes surprise prediction for Wolves vs Tottenham
Will Spurs bounce back after defeat to Chelsea?
It was a carnage-filled match which will have huge ramifications for the rest of their campaign, with a number of players now not available for their next few fixtures.
Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie were both sent off against the Blues and will miss the trip to Molineux, with the former also suspended for the clashes against Aston Villa and Manchester City after the international break.
Micky van de Ven limped off with a hamstring injury and while he does not require surgery isn’t expected to be back until next year, as is Richarlison who has undergone surgery to deal with a pelvic issue.
And as well as losing their first choice centre-back pairing, James Maddison, who has been Spurs’ key player this season, is also a doubt having been forced off with a minor injury against Chelsea.
With a total of 10 players unavailable, Arsenal legend Merson believes Postecoglou side won’t be getting back to winning ways this weekend, even against a struggling Wolves team, telling Sportskeeda: ‘This one is a very interesting game.
‘I’ll be shocked if Tottenham, with their injuries and suspensions, beat Wolves on Saturday. I was looking at Spurs’ situation and they have some bad injuries.
‘Micky van de Ven is out and they’ve got Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie who are set to miss a couple of weeks due to suspension. James Maddison is going to be out too and Richarlison is set to undergo surgery.
‘Ange Postecoglou will be fielding a makeshift backline and they are not going to be the same side that got off to a flying start to the season due to their injuries.
‘Prediction: Wolverhampton 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur.’
Wolves go into the game sitting in 14th in the table, 14 points behind second-placed Tottenham, have won just one of their last four games.
That said, Gary O’Neil’s side have pulled off a couple of impressive results this season, most notably beating City 2-1 in September.
