More than 11,000 Palestinians and at least 1,200 Israelis have been killed, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Palestinian health authority, since Hamas militants launched an attack against Israel from the Gaza Strip on 07 October, and the Israeli operations in Gaza and the West Bank which followed it. The bodies of two Israeli hostages have been recovered from Gaza City, Israel’s military has claimed.

Judith Weiss, a 65-year-old grandmother who was suffering from breast cancer, was found dead in a building near al-Shifa Hospital in northern Gaza after being kidnapped by Hamas, according to the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF).

The body of 19-year-old IDF soldier Noa Marciano was found hours later in another building next to the hospital, officials say.

Late on Thursday, Israel shared videos and photos of what it claimed to be ‘operational tunnel shaft and a vehicle containing a large number of weapons’ in the hospital.

Israeli soldiers have been searching the facility, a sprawling complex in the centre of Gaza City, since early on Wednesday morning.

Dr Ghassan Abu-Sittah, a British doctor working at al-Shifa, has branded Israeli claims that Hamas used the tunnels as a command centre as an ‘outlandish excuse’.
