Andre Onana redeemed himself with a last minute penalty save to give Manchester United their first Champions League win of the season.

In a tough and frustrating game at Old Trafford on Tuesday night, United edged past Copenhagen with a much needed 1-0 win.

Harry Maguire scored with 20 minutes to go and it seemed that all three points were in the bag, only for Scott McTominay to give away a penalty in the 94th minute.

Jordan Larsson – the son of former Red Devils forward Henrik – stepped up to the spot but the under fire Onana produced a massive save to deny him and win the game for United.

The goalkeeper has been under a huge amount of scrutiny since arriving from Inter Milan in a deal worth upwards of £44million, having made numerous mistakes and conceding 20 goals in 12 games before tonight.

But he did a lot to help his cause, not only with the penalty but with another superb save early in the second-half.

‘I’m just doing my job, the most important thing is to win against a tough team,’ the 27-year-old told TNT Sports.

‘I am happy for the victory, we did a good game and a big goal from Harry.

‘We are Manchester United. We are a big club, big players. It’s just a matter of time, now we have to continue like this. I have no doubt we will make it.’

Ten Hag, who was determined to sign Onana after working with him at Ajax, was full of praise for his keeper, adding: ‘Of course it is incredible and a great night.

‘Especially in the dying second when you concede a penalty, but a brilliant save from Andre Onana. Those players, Harry Maguire played a good game and Andre Onana as well. He had an important save just after half-time.
