Kobbie Mainoo left out of Manchester United squad for Copenhagen clash
The 18-year-old is likely play for the Under-19s this afternoon.
The 18-year-old midfielder has made the bench in United’s last two Premier League outings, including Saturday’s late win over Fulham at Craven Cottage.
He is still to make a senior appearance this season after suffering an injury during the club’s pre-season tour of the US.
United fans have been eager to see the academy product introduced to the side with Erik ten Hag making it clear in the summer he views him as a future star at Old Trafford.
Calls for him to come into the team have been heightened by news that Casemiro is now likely to be ruled out until the New Year.
But the teenager will not be involved in Wednesday’s crucial group stage tie in Copenhagen and is instead expected to line up for the Under-19s in their Uefa Youth League clash against the same opposition this afternoon.
As expected, Marcus Rashford is back in the squad after missing that win over Fulham due to a leg injury.
The England international was back in training on Tuesday along with Victor Lindelof, ruled out at the weekend through illness, with the two in contention to start in the Danish capital.
‘[He is] 100 per cent [ready],’ ten Hag said of his forward at a press conference yesterday. ‘Rashy missed one game [with] a small knock, but he’s back.’
United will be looking for more goals from Rasmus Hojlund who is expected to feature against one of his old sides tonight.
The Denmark international has scored three times in the Champions League this season but is still to open his Premier League account.
‘He understands but of course, we speak with him about this because he is still a young player,’ ten Hag said.
‘He is smart. He understands the situation he is in and he is aware of it and he wants to score goals. When he is not, he is so keen to score in the next game. He is working very hard in training to get his progress in.’
