Manchester United have confirmed that Luke Shaw will be sidelined for ‘a few months’ with a hamstring injury.

The left-back has made just 15 appearances for United this season due to injury and was forced off during the 2-1 win over Luton Town on Sunday with a hamstring issue.

On Wednesday, reports claimed that Shaw could now miss the remainder of the campaign due to his latest injury setback, while his place in England’s Euro 2024 squad is also in doubt.

United have now announced that Shaw will not return anytime soon and the 28-year-old will undergo further medical tests.

A statement from United on Wednesday evening read: ‘Luke Shaw has sustained a muscle injury and will be out for an extended period.

‘Further assessment is still needed to determine the severity but we expect him to be absent for a few months.’

Erik ten Hag is now without a recognised first-team left-back as Tyrell Malacia remains absent due to a long-term injury.

Lisandro Martinez, who played at left-back under Ten Hag at Ajax is also out as he continues to recover from a knee injury.

Victor Lindelof deputised for Shaw and is expected to be Ten Hag’s first-choice option at left-back for the remainder of United’s campaign.
