However, he has also lost some.
On Wednesday, Piers tweeted the government’s daily coronavirus update and wrote: ‘UPDATE: UK #coronavirus death toll spiked by 412 yesterday, not 209 as earlier reported. This is nearly four times higher than yesterday & significantly higher than the same day last week. Why?’
Some followers argued that this was due to a ‘lag’ in figures over the bank holiday weekend and accused the journalist of not tweeting about lower death figures to suit his ‘agenda’ – including former Towie star Mario.

The 32-year-old tweeted: ‘And people listen to this piece of s***? Knows full well there is a lag over the bank holiday but still posts this to scare you all. What an oxygen thief!’
So you call this man out for his scaremongering and he blocks you! I do believe people are starting to see right through him. He is nothing but a self obsessed coward. Do not listen to a word he says! And he buys his followers ð pic.twitter.com/dyiroFPCSw

He then revealed that he had been blocked by Morgan on Twitter, writing: ‘So you call this man out for his scaremongering and he blocks you! I do believe people are starting to see right through him. He is nothing but a self obsessed coward.
‘Do not listen to a word he says! And he buys his followers.’
Explaining to a follower about why he no longer supports Piers, Mario tweeted: ‘At first he was brilliant and helping the NHS… now he is more focused on bringing down the government and scaring the public. Never reports days when deaths are low but does when they are higher, even when he knows it’s a bank holiday weekend lag.’
Nathan Massey – who won the second series of Love Island – quote tweeted Mario and added: ‘Used to love piers gone right off him after his out bursts, we are at war what ever way you look at it, we need to stick together in a epidemic like this (like they did in WW2), not scaremonger the pubic into hating our leader, that’s helping no 1 [sic].’

Although a Conservative voter, Morgan, 55, has been vocal in his criticism of the government’s handling of the pandemic, and has ‘banned all government ministers’ from appearing on GMB, except for ‘those who didn’t publicly support [Dominic] Cummings breaching a lockdown that the Govt forced on the rest of us “to save lives”’.
He had previously called out ministers who refused to appear on GMB while appearing on other news shows, tweeting: ‘Once we allow the Govt to boycott news outlets like @GMB for asking ministers tough questions, it’s a slippery slope to a totalitarian state.
