Nick Kyrgios will miss the Australian Open for the second year running due to ongoing injury problems.

In January, the Australian pulled out of the first major of the year to undergo knee surgery which left him on the sidelines for the next five months.

An injury-hit year also saw him miss the French Open due to a foot injury with a wrist problem forcing him out of Wimbledon and the US Open.

The 28-year-old has played just one match in 2023 and was not named in the main draw for January’s competition which took place on Thursday.

With injuries still lingering, Kyrgios confirmed on his OnlyFans page that he will not feature in Melbourne in the New Year.

‘This is a very disappointing time for me, but I won’t be able to compete at the 2024 Australian Open,’ Kyrgios said on the platform, which he joined on Friday.

‘Obviously, heartbreaking. I’ve had so many amazing memories there, and I just want to really get back to playing at the top of my game and doing it right, and I need a little more time.

‘I was so close to winning a Grand Slam. I want to make sure that my body is going to have the time it needs to come back, so please bear with me.’

Kyrgios is still likely to be on television screens next month, suggesting he has a commentary role lined up while he is unable to play.

‘Even though I won’t be there competing this year at the AO, I still will be around, commentating matches. I’ve got some special things planned, so please be excited.’

Kyrgios becomes the latest athlete to join OnlyFans, setting up a free-to-access account and promising to show his fans ‘a different side’.

‘Of course, there’ll be tennis balls involved, tips, tricks and behind the scenes, but also they’ll get to see all different sides of me,’ he said.

“Gaming, tattoos, my intimate side – it’s all on the table and I’ll be bringing fans along for the ride!’

Kyrgios’ best finish at the Australian Open was in 2015 when he reached the quarter-final stage, having won the men’s doubles with Thanasi Kokkinakis in 2022.

Before injuries struck this year, he reached the 2022 Wimbledon final where he lost to Novak Djokovic, his best finish to date.

The Australian Open kicks off on 14 January with the men’s final scheduled to take place on the 28th.
