Armistice Day and pro-Palestine events will take place in London on Saturday

The organiser of Saturday’s Armistice Day event at the Cenotaph has given his backing to a pro-Palestine march which is set to take place in London.

Richard Hughes, from Western Front Association, has said that his charity is a ‘democratic organisation that believes in ‘freedom of speech’, as the Israel-Hamas war rumbles on into day 34.

His comments come amid a backlash from several senior government ministers, who do not believe that the march should take place for fear of remembrance events being disrespected.

Chief amongst them is Home Secretary Suella Braverman, who has accused the Metropolitan Police of ‘playing favourites’ by allowing the march to go ahead.

Saturday’s protest comes as the UN Secretary-General has said something is ‘clearly wrong’ with Israel’s military operation in Gaza, with 40% of the 10,569 people killed so far being children, according to the Hamas-led Gaza health ministry.
