Paul Scholes does not think Manchester United will have had much of a confidence boost from their recent two wins, but says they have to make it three victories on the spin on Tuesday night against FC Copenhagen.

The Red Devils have had a very sketchy start to the season, but have won on their last two outings, with narrow 2-1 victories over Brentford and Sheffield United.

They were much needed wins in the Premier League, but Manchester United are still looking for their first point of the Champions League group stage after two matches.

Erik ten Hag’s side host Copenhagen on Tuesday knowing they realistically need three points to keep their hopes of qualification alive, but Scholes is not necessarily expecting great things.

The club legend was not impressed with the performances in the recent wins, although does accept that this is partly down to injuries, suspensions and other absences.

;I’m not sure how much confidence the two wins in the Premier League will give them,’ Scholes told TNT Sports. ‘One of them was scraped through [against Brentford], and again the performance wasn’t great again on Saturday night against a team you would expect to be relegated.

‘They’re just not firing at the minute. I’m not sure what the issue is, there seems to be a lot of changes all the time, they can’t seem to get a consistent team, whether it’s through injuries or suspensions, whatever it may be.

‘But they need to win this game, there’s no doubt about it, and they probably need to win three of the next four games in the Champions League.’

Back-to-back losses to Bayern Munich and Galatasaray in Europe have left United bottom of Group A and anything but victory on Tuesday would keep them there.

Scholes added: ‘This week is vitally important. They’re in a terrible position after losing to Galatasaray, that first home game was a complete disaster.’
