Rishi Sunak has ‘confidence’ in Suella Braverman amid pro-Palestine protest row – latest news
The home secretary referred to the protests as 'mobs'.
Suella Braverman is to work another day as Rishi Sunak has ‘full confidence’ in her despite her divisive article about pro-Palestine marches.
Writing in The Times yesterday, the home secretary accused the Metropolitan Police of ‘double standards’ in its handling of a pro-Palestinian protest planned for Armistice Day in London.
She said there is a ‘perception that senior officers play favourites when it comes to protesters’, adding that the ‘mobs’ are ‘problematic’.
Senior Labour politicians have called Braverman, among other things, ‘out of control’ and a ‘disgrace’ over the piece.
For the past four Saturdays, tens of thousands of demonstrators have marched through the capital in grief and solidarity with Gaza to denounce the 10,000-strong death toll.
Another is planned for Saturday (November 11), with the Met saying it has no grounds to stop it – it can only do so under a rarely used power not employed since 2012 to ban a string of far-right protests.
