The UN’s refugee agency in Gaza has said it will have to shut down within 48 hours unless fuel is allowed in.

Thomas White, director of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) warned on Monday that it will have to cease operations unless fuel is allowed into the Gaza Strip.

He says no fuel has entered Gaza since October 7, the date of Hamas’s violent incursion of Israel.

Aid trucks have been entering the Strip, but these deliveries have not included fuel as it’s feared it will end up Hamas’s hands.

Due to the ongoing fuel shortage, Gaza’s largest hospital has ceased to function.

Incubators were turned off due to the lack of fuel, leading to six premature babies dying at Al-Shifa Hospital.

Elsewhere, an Irish child thought to have been killed during the Hamas incursion has been confirmed as alive and being held hostage in the Gaza Strip by Israeli authorities.

Emily Hand was among the civilians in Kibbutz Be’eri when armed militants burst through the Israel-Gaza border on October 7.

Days after the attack, her distraught dad Thomas told reporters of his ‘relief’ that his daughter was among the killed, because being kidnapped by the group was a fate ‘worse than death’.
