Raheem Sterling has sent a classy message to Chelsea team-mate Nicolas Jackson, insisting the squad ‘know what he’s capable of’ and has praised his hard work in training.

Jackson scored three goals as the Blues smashed Spurs 4-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Monday, a match which saw Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie dismissed in the 33rd minute and 55th minute respectively.

The Senegal international striker, who has faced plenty of criticism this season, has registered six goals across 13 games for the west Londoners and Sterling feels Jackson will only get better and better.

Asked for his thoughts on Jackson, Sterling told Stadium Astro: ‘To score goals it’s a collective, I don’t think it’s on individuals.

‘Of course, individuals have to take their opportunities but I feel like us as a team we have to try and be in positions to make opportunities easier.

‘Me myself, to try and bring the ball into position to try and create and we see him in training, we know what he’s capable of.

‘Personally I think he just needs to focus on giving everything like he has been, and the goals will flow.’

Meanwhile, Dimitar Berbatov has warned that it is still ‘early days’ for Jackson despite his hat-trick for Chelsea at Tottenham and insists we ‘can’t forget’ that Spurs had two players sent off in the match.

‘That hat-trick is going to be good for Nicolas Jackson, obviously,’ Berbatov told Betfair following Chelsea’s win over his former club. ‘He’s stating his position by saying, ‘I can be the No.9 for Chelsea’ – but it’s still early days for him. He needs to continue to work hard to get scoring opportunities.

‘Sometimes when he gets in a good scoring opportunity, his shot on goal is missing. The Tottenham game will be good for his confidence, although we can’t forget that it was 11 vs 9, so it was easy for him to get those scoring opportunities… consistency will be a major factor for him.’
