Alejandro Garnacho speaks out on new Manchester United position
They've finally found a solution.
Alejandro Garnacho says the relationship between Manchester United’s frontline is blossoming now after the attack were given time to ‘connect’.
The Argentine scored twice in United’s 3-0 win against West Ham on Sunday, taking his tally for the season to seven.
United’s attack have hit 11 goals in their last three matches, having scored just six goals in eight matches in December.
A major part of that has been Garnacho’s performances from the right flank.
The 19-year-old has been shifted to the right to make way for Marcus Rashford to play in his preferred position on the left, with Rasmus Hojlund in the middle.
And though Garnacho says he doesn’t mind who scores, he says finding a place on the right has allowed the frontline to form relationships on the pitch.
‘We connect very good I think, with me now playing on the right. With Rashy on the left, putting in crosses, and Bruno [Fernandes] in behind,’ said Garnacho.
‘We think we have a good team in the front. I always try to help the team, score and assist, but I don’t care if I score or if it’s Rasmus or Rashy who scores.
‘I think we have to win and be in the top six again. We’re above West Ham now, but we want to be in the Champions League next year, so we have to keep this momentum and try to win the next game. It’s incredible to play with this team, in this stadium, a historic one, with these fans.’
The form of Garnacho, Hojlund and Kobbie Mainoo has given United fans reason to feel optimistic for the future.
Garnacho admits it’s a ‘dream’ to be breaking into the side alongside Mainoo.
‘It is a dream for me and him. Kobbie is a future star and also it is a good feeling because we played in the Under-18s and the Under-21s, we grew up together and I am very happy,’ said Garnacho.
‘If you have to play, you play, it doesn’t matter if you are 18 or 19. I am happy for him and happy for the team.’
