Harry Redknapp has likened Arsenal target Alexander Isak to club legend Thierry Henry following his ‘world class’ performance against Tottenham.

The Newcastle United striker has emerged as one of Arsenal’s top transfer targets for the summer, with reports claiming they will offer £100million for his services.

It is no wonder given that Isak has scored 21 goals so far this season across all competitions, with 17 in 24 Premier League appearances.

These efforts have fired the Magpies to sixth in the table and put him firmly in the race for the Golden Boot as only Manchester City’s Erling Haaland (20) and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins (19) have scored more.

The Sweden international found the back of the net twice last Saturday as Newcastle thrashed Tottenham 4-0, with his performance earning him top billing in Redknapp’s Team of the Week.

‘My star man has to be Alexander Isak, he was just world class against Spurs,’ the former Tottenham manager told BetVictor.

‘Some of his touches were brilliant and he was a nightmare for that Spurs defence. I like Micky van de Ven but Isak gave him the runaround at the weekend, he could have scored more than the two he got.

‘People have compared this lad to Thierry Henry and you can see those comparisons. He’s not quite at that level yet but he’s got the lot and there’s not many strikers in world football better than him.’

With ringing endorsements like this, it’s easy to see why Arsenal would be willing to pay so much for Isak, though some have cautioned the potential transfer given the 24-year-old’s injury history.

He wasn’t the only Newcastle star to make Redknapp’s Team of the Week however, with praise also going to the other players who found the back of the net against Spurs.

Anthony Gordon was brilliant yet again for Newcastle this weekend, he caused that Spurs defence so many problems,’ Redknapp added.

‘He’s so quick, so direct and his end product is just getting better and better. I love watching this lad play – he’s a bit of a throwback player.

‘Tottenham barely had a sniff against Newcastle and Fabian Schar was brilliant yet again. He dominated that Spurs attack and even got himself a goal at the end to seal it. He goes under the radar but there aren’t many better than him in the league.’
