Brian Brobbey teases Arsenal or Manchester United move and reveals how much he will cost
The Ajax striker is backing himself to have a big Euros.
Ajax striker Brian Brobbey has named Arsenal and Manchester United as two clubs he would like to play for in the future, while he has put a massive price tag on his head should he leave Amsterdam this summer.
Although Ajax have endured a very underwhelming season and sit in fifth place in the Eredivisie table, Brobbey has enjoyed a strong individual campaign in front of goal.
The 22-year-old has scored 17 times in 26 league appearances as well as racking up seven assists, with United boss – and former Ajax manager – Erik ten Hag a long-time admirer.
United have been repeatedly linked with a move for the forward but he turned down a transfer to Old Trafford in the summer of 2022, instead choosing to return to Ajax after a short-lived spell at RB Leipzig.
With the Red Devils still in need of more firepower up top, a move for Brobbey could be back on the agenda once again this summer – and it appears he may be open to the switch.
In a quickfire Q&A with the Dutch edition of Men’s Health magazine, Brobbey listed United as one of the clubs he would like to play for in his career – along with Arsenal – while he is backing himself to have a strong Euros campaign that will increase his value dramatically.
Asked which foreign club he would like to play for one day, Brobbey replied: ‘Real Madrid is a great club, but so are Arsenal and Manchester United.’
Brobbey was then asked how much he believes he would cost if he leaves Ajax, replying with a straight face: ‘After the European Championships, I will be worth €80million!’
When the interviewer then cheekily asked if he will head to Old Trafford after his transfer fee-increasing Euros appearance, Brobbey raised his eyebrows and smiled before saying: ‘I still have a contract here until 2027.’
Brobbey can be rather mischievous in interviews and he actually only has one cap for the Netherlands national team and is far from certain of even getting picked for the Euros – particularly after his finishing was criticised by head coach Ronald Koeman.
Speaking shortly after Brobbey’s one and only cap at the backend of last year, Koeman told Ziggo Sport: ‘I still hope he continues to develop.
‘We had him with the Dutch team during the previous international break. We were shooting and you saw that his first touch and the way he finished was not good.’
Ronald de Boer, who coached Brobbey with Ajax’s academy, said to Koeman on the show: ‘I had him as a youth, he was always like that.
‘He never really had the finishing touch. Against Heerenveen I thought he was one of the better players. He was dragging his feet.’
