Erik ten Hag does not expect any of his injured defenders to be available for Manchester United’s weekend clash against Burnley but hopes to have Mason Mount available.

United came from behind twice to beat Sheffield United at home on Wednesday night and were once again without a host of first-team players.

With Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans and Willy Kambwala all out, ten Hag has named a centre-half partnership of Harry Maguire and Casemiro for United’s last two games.

18-year-old Louis Jackson has been the only other available option on the bench with ten Hag also still without Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.

United have shipped five goals in their last two games but ten Hag is likely to have no choice but to rely on the pairing of Maguire and Casemiro once again when they host Burnley on Saturday afternoon.

But ten Hag does hope to have Mount available once again, boosting his options in midfield.

‘No, not yet. We have to be patient for it,’ ten Hag told Match of the Day when asked if any injured defenders will return this weekend.

‘For coming back for the game against Burnley, I don’t expect [them]. Mason Mount, he will return, I think.’

Mount has endured an injury-hit first season at Old Trafford, managing just seven starting appearances in all competitions.

The former Chelsea star missed three months of action before making his return off the bench in the FA Cup victory over Liverpool.

He scored his first goal for the club in the next game against Brentford, making three further appearances off the bench before injury struck again.

United were also without Marcus Rashford on Wednesday night. The England international limped off against Coventry on Sunday and was not included in last night’s matchday squad.
