Erik ten Hag’s future ‘in the balance’ despite talks with Manchester United board over summer recruitment
He's clinging on.
Erik ten Hag’s future at Manchester United is ‘in the balance’, despite holding talks with the board over this summer’s transfer window.
The Dutchman has been heavily involved in planning for next season, including the club’s pre-season tour and their recruitment.
That’s despite the club winning just one of their last seven matches in the Premier League, which has all but ended their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League.
United are ending the season in a similar fashion that has seen the likes of Louis van Gaal, David Moyes and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer lose their jobs in the past decade.
But, upon taking a 27.7% stake in the club, Sir Jim Ratcliffe had said the environment at the club was a bigger problem than perceived failings of those managers.
United had wanted to stick by Ten Hag, but results in recent weeks have forced the board into a rethink.
The Athletic say a decision will be made in the coming weeks, and that no concrete decision has been made over Ten Hag’s future.
He is involved in planning for next season and in recruitment, but not in the same way that he was in previous summers.
