A man has been arrested after a bomb threat put a Danish airport in lockdown.
A man has been arrested after a bomb threat at an airport in Denmark.
Billund Airport was evacuated after a bomb threat this morning, local outlets report.
All passengers and staff were told to leave the airport at about 11.40am today, Jyllands-Posten reports citing Ekstra Bladet and TV 2.
Now a man has been arrested, according to Ekstra Bladet.
Pictures from the scene show a man being handcuffed against the outside wall of the airport terminal as police surround him.
A minesweeper was on its way to the airport, according to TV Syd citing Home Guard Command sources which provides assistance at the airport.
Police urged people on social media to not travel to Billund Airport and confirmed it had a heavy presence there.
It wrote on X: ‘We cannot provide further information at this time, but we encourage you not to search for the airport. If you are in the area, you must follow the police’s instructions.’
All flights have been grounded for the time being and travellers were told to check the airport’s website for updates, TV 2 said.
Passenger Domas Giedraitis was waiting for his flight to Vilnius when he heard the evacuation order over the loudspeaker, he told TV 2.
He said he saw a man in handcuffs being led away by the police before being told to move further away himself.
A nearby airport hotel invited ‘all evacuees’ for a free coffee in its 400-seat breakfast area, the hotel’s chef Kirsten Paugan said on Facebook.
The country’s second largest airport is located around 165 miles west of the capital Copenhagen and less than two miles from Legoland.
