Michael Carrick tips Cole Palmer for ‘terrific career’ after Chelsea beat his Middlesbrough side to reach EFL Cup final
High praise.
Middlesbrough boss Michael Carrick couldn’t help but admire Cole Palmer after Chelsea beat his side to reach the EFL Cup final.
The Blues booked a spot to face Liverpool at Wembley after a 6-2 aggregate win against Carrick’s side.
Middlesbrough won the first leg 1-0 but Chelsea showed their Premier League class to overcome the Championship side at Stamford Bridge.
Palmer was instrumental during the second leg, scoring twice to take his tally for the season to 12.
The Englishman has been a shining light in an otherwise difficult debut campaign for Mauricio Pochettino in west London.
And Carrick said he had nothing but ‘respect’ for Palmer’s talent, saying the playmaker will have a ‘terrific career’.
‘Cole Palmer is a nice lad and down-to-earth,’ said Carrick.
‘You can see from playing against him the quality that he has got.
‘It is not nice when you are on the other end of it but you can appreciate and respect how good he is. He will have a terrific career.’
