Mohamed Salah has suggested he is far from happy following his touchline bust-up with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and sent a cryptic warning as he left the London Stadium.

The out-of-form Egyptian was benched for Saturday’s 2-2 draw away at West Ham, with Klopp opting to start Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo and Harvey Elliot in attack.

He was waiting on the sidelines ready to come on with around 15 minutes of the match remaining, with fellow substitutes Darwin Nunez and Joe Gomez also lurking on the touchline.

But before the trio could be introduced, Michail Antonio headed West Ham level and that prompted a bizarre exchange between Salah and Klopp.

The 31-year-old reacted angrily to a comment made by Klopp and could be seen arguing back and throwing his arms up in the air, with Nunez eventually having to push his team-mate away as he yelled at his manager.

Klopp played down the incident afterwards and said the matter was ‘done’ for him, while he also felt Salah had drawn a line under the matter following a chat in the dressing room, saying: ‘That was my impression of it, yes.’

But it appears Salah may not be quite as willing to move on from the argument and made a pointed comment when he left the London Stadium after the game.

As he walked through the mixed zone to get on the team bus, Salah declined to give an interview to any of the waiting journalists but did make an eyebrow-raising comment, saying: ‘There’s going to be fire today if I speak.’

The comment from Salah did not go down well with Liverpool fans, with many feeling the rather provocative remark – which might hint at a future interview down the line – was just as bad as if he had stopped and spoken to the journalists.

Liverpool supporters certainly seemed to side with Klopp over the dispute, with Jamie Carragher suggesting the argument may have been caused by Salah not being ready to come on – and West Ham then scoring when the changes should already have been made.

Writing on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, Carragher said: ‘The only reason a manager would be unhappy in this situation is if the player took too long to be ready to come on.’

Although Klopp will not be in charge of Liverpool next season, the clash will certainly raise questions over Salah’s future at Anfield.

He was heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia last summer but Liverpool rejected offers in excess of £100million – a figure they are unlikely to get now – and with just one year left on his contract, and declining performances, the Merseysiders may decide to cash in.
