Roy Keane has hailed Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford for his wondergoal in Sunday’s derby against rivals Manchester City at the Etihad.

Rashford unleashed an absolute rocket from 25 yards out which flew into the top of the net to silence the home supporters after just eight minutes.

United took a 1-0 lead into the break and Keane was left delighted with the first-half performance of his old club against Pep Guardiola’s champions.

‘It was a brilliant goal and a brilliant first half that has flown by with chances everywhere,’ Keane told Sky Sports.

‘Scott McTominay makes a great run in terms of taking players away. From the long kick upfield, it’s as simple as you like.

‘But then it’s world class from Marcus Rashford. He’s done it before and there’s no problem with his body language today.’

Rashford’s shot was hit at 72mph, which had an xG of 0.03, meaning that there was only a one in 30 chance of it actually going in.

Rashford wrote a lengthy blog piece for The Players’ Tribune on Thursday in response to the widespread criticism he has faced this season.

Gary Neville added: ‘He said in the week, if you back me ‘good’, if you doubt me ‘better’… but that is the best way to answer your critics. Smash one into the top of the net from 25 yards.

‘It’s an absolute beauty from Manchester United’s No 10. When you play against City, you need a lot to go your way and one of them just has.’
