Footage shows two female protesters ducking under the barriers protecting the Leonardo da Vinci masterpiece before lobbing soup over the painting.
They then both took off their jackets to reveal matching white t-shirts with the words ‘Riposte Alimentaire’ written in black capital letters – which means ‘Food Response’ in English.
The painting is housed at the Louvre in Paris, France.
The two protesters were reportedly demanding the right to ‘healthy and sustainable food’.
This isn’t the first time the Mona Lisa has been targeted by climate activists – in May 2022, someone attempted to deface the painting by throwing cake on it.
A man disguised as an elderly woman in a wheelchair threw cake at the priceless piece, before exclaiming ‘think of the planet!’ while being escorted out of the building.
He also tried to smash the protective glass in front of the painting but was unsuccessful.
