David Moyes has confirmed that Alphonse Areola, Jarrod Bowen and Kalvin Phillips will be assessed for their injuries ahead of West Ham’s Premier League clash against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Areola has missed West Ham’s last five games due to a groin injury and was absent for the 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Phillips has also not played for West Ham since the 4-3 defeat away to Newcastle on March 30 but both he and Areola returned to training this week.

‘Hopefully we will but again when I get to see the players and get them working with the medical staff we’ll find out exactly how they are,’ Moyes said on Friday.

‘Obviously the two boys [Lucas Paqueta and Emerson] were suspended so they would come back into contention.

‘And I’ll check the other two injuries with Kalvin and Areola.’

Moyes also revealed that Bowen was close to missing West Ham’s draw with Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday evening and required a painkilling injection to play.

‘Jarrod’s always quite robust, but I know he was really touch and go for last night’s match, and he was really close to not playing,’ Moyes said.

‘He took an injection before the fixture, so we’ll need to see how he is and how he’s reacted to that. It was a big boost to have him back, as it is whenever your big players are available to play.’

When asked about Nayef Aguerd’s injury, Moyes said: ‘I’ve not had a chance to assess him yet and the staff.

‘Him and Dinos [Mavropanos] are both getting checked, we’ll see how they are for the weekend.

‘He [Aguerd] went over on his ankle.’
