Sir Lewis Hamilton has blasted those who ‘continue to talk s***’ about his impending move to Ferrari, saying his decision ‘doesn’t need vindicating’.

This comes after the seven-time Formula 1 champion stormed out of an interview after the last race in Japan after being asked if he was already ‘looking forward’ to the move.

Hamilton is set to leave Mercedes after 11 highly successful years to join Ferrari in 2025, a transfer that was unusually announced prior to the start of the 2024 campaign.

At the moment, that decision looks to have been a masterstroke given that the Scuderia are the closest challengers to the dominant Red Bulls, with Carlos Sainz – the driver Hamilton is replacing – winning in Australia.

Moreover, Mercedes are well off the pace, with the team and Hamilton suffering their worst ever start to a season, and some believe the Brit may already have his mind on next year, though he refuted this suggestion in Suzuka.

Ahead of this weekend’s Chinese Grand Prix, the 39-year-old insisted he was paying no mind to any outside noise, telling the media: ‘I don’t feel like I need my decision vindicating.

‘I know what was right for me, and that hasn’t changed since the moment that I made the decision. There’s not been a moment where I questioned it, and I’m not swayed by other people’s comments.

‘Even today, there’s people continuing to talk s*** and it will continue on for the rest of the year. And I’ll have to just do what I did the previous time.

‘Only you can know what’s right for you and it will be an exciting time for me.’

Asked exactly what he meant by ‘talking s***’ Hamilton responded: ‘Just reports out there.’

The length of Hamilton’s ‘multi-year’ contract with Ferrari is unclear, but he also added that he now intends to hang around for a good few years more, following the example of Fernando Alonso.

The two-time champion recently extended his stay with Aston Martin until 2026, meaning by the end of his deal he’ll 45.

‘I’m going to be racing well into my forties. So yeah, it’s no short-term thing,’ Hamilton added.

‘I’m going to be racing for quite some time still, so it’s definitely good that he [Alonso] is still around. I hope that he keeps going for a little bit longer as well.’
