Manchester United have learnt how much they must pay to sign Jean-Clair Todibo from OGC Nice in the summer transfer window.

The 24-year-old centre-back has been on United’s wishlist since last summer and and it is believed that Todibo could now be on the move at the end of this season.

United are keen to bring in a new central defender as part of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s squad rebuild and are also considering a move for Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite.

Todibo is another option and Nice have slapped a £40m price tag on him for the summer window, according to new reports.

That would make Todibo a cheaper alternative to Branthwaite – although his price could be ramped up if a bidding war ensues.

United are not the only side monitoring the France international, with other unnamed Premier League teams and European clubs also interested.

Todibo joined Nice from Barcelona in 2021 and has made 128 appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit to date, with the defender under contract with them until 2027.

He earned his first cap for France back in September and has appeared twice for his country so far.

United were reportedly ‘close’ to signing Todibo in a £34.1m deal in August and they were strongly linked again in January.

Chelsea and Tottenham were also thought to be interested in Todibo two months ago – but it remains to be seen if they will re-join United in the race this summer.
